A song in my head

How often does a song get inside your head and simply not get out?

Before I left to office I listened to Jefferson Airplane’s “Somebody to love”. Ever since I watched Cable Guy, I’ve always wanted to listen to the Jefferson Airplane version of this song. I put in a few dedicated minutes listening to the song before I left for office.

When the truth is found to be lies
And all the joy within you dies
Don’t you want somebody to love
Don’t you need somebody to love
Wouldn’t you love somebody to love
You better find somebody to love

When the garden flowers, baby, are dead. yes
And your mind, your mind, is so full of red
Don’t you want somebody to love
Don’t you need somebody to love
Wouldn’t you love somebody to love
You better find somebody to love

Your eyes, I say, your eyes may look like his
But in your head, baby, I’m afraid you don’t know where it is
Don’t you want somebody to love
Don’t you need somebody to love
Wouldn’t you love somebody to love
You better find somebody to love

Tears are running down, down, your breast
And your friends, baby, they treat you like a guest
Don’t you want somebody to love
Don’t you need somebody to love
Wouldn’t you love somebody to love
You better find somebody to love

I didn’t realise what the song did to me. I knew that at work today, I had to sit all day through a training session. And it happened as soon as I entered office… I was feeling this strong need to listen to the Jim Carrey Version of the song. The song began to echo in my head, not too loud to satisfy my need but not too faint to ignore. As I walked to the conference hall, I even tried humming the tune hoping to find some relief.

Every time the instructor gave us a break and my mind was free, the song automatically would play in my head, driving me mad. I wanted to hear the song so badly atleast for a minute, but that was not possible in office.

By the time I got back home, I’d made up my mind that I wouldn’t let a song get the better of me. I spent the rest of the evening trying to get xine engine working on Suse 10.1.  A splash of Linux at home is sure refreshing. I couldn’t get any of Amarok, Kaffeine or Xine working today.

Now when its three hours past  midnight, and its time to go to bed, I’m playing Jefferson Airplane again. I’ve already listened to this song 3 times now.

I need to bury my head in plaster to prevent it from exploding tomorrow. Incorrigible me.
