Beautiful dreamer

The year was 1999. I had just obtained this DOS program that could play Audio CDs. I found the idea of a DOS program  playing multimedia very impressive and wanted it check it out. I popped my Soundblaster audio CD which had come along with my Creatice Infra Speaker kit and played a random track. The song happened to be beautiful dreamer. It sounded very nice. Though my original intent was just to preview different tracks, I sat down and listened to the whole song right at the very first time. Nice song, I thought. I ripped it into an MP3 and the song went into my very first collection of mp3s.
Only thing, I didnt realize that it was a song written in 1862.

Years later, I came across, Stephen C. Foster’s other works (1825-1864)  here.

Beautiful dreamer is a song which has proved to me that good lyrics can and will stand the ravage of time. A song that could capture the instant attention of a young man living in a different part of the world 137  years later !

 Lyrics to Beautiful Dreamer.

Beautiful dreamer, wake unto me.
Starlight and dewdrops are waiting for thee;
Sounds of the rude world heard in the day,
Lull’d by the moonlight, have all pass’d away!

Beautiful dreamer, queen of my song,
List while I woo thee with soft melody;
Gone are the cares of life’s busy throng.
Beautiful dreamer, awake unto me!

Beautiful dreamer, out on the sea.
Mermaids are chaunting the wild lorelie;
Over the streamlet vapors are borne,
Waiting to fade at the bright coming morn,

Beautiful dreamer, beam on my heart,
E’en as the morn’ on the streamlet and sea;
Then will all clouds of sorrow depart,
Beautiful dreamer, awake unto me!
