First I was afraid
I was petrified
Kept thinking I could never live
without you by my side
But then I spent so many nights
thinking how you did me wrong
I grew strong
I learned how to carry on
and so you’re back
from outer space
I just walked in to find you here
with that sad look upon your face
I should have changed my stupid lock
I should have made you leave your key
If I had known for just one second
you’d be back to bother me

Go on now go walk out the door
just turn around now
’cause you’re not welcome anymore
weren’t you the one who tried to hurt me with goodbye
you think I’d crumble
you think I’d lay down and die
Oh no, not I
I will survive
as long as i know how to love
I know I will stay alive
I’ve got all my life to live
I’ve got all my love to give
and I’ll survive
I will survive
[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pc0z78FqkMc&NR#]
It took all the strength I had
not to fall apart
kept trying hard to mend
the pieces of my broken heart
and I spent oh so many nights
just feeling sorry for myself
I used to cry
Now I hold my head up high
and you see me
somebody new
I’m not that chained up little person
still in love with you
and so you felt like dropping in
and just expect me to be free
now I’m saving all my loving
for someone who’s loving me

Go on now go walk out the door
just turn around now
’cause you’re not welcome anymore
weren’t you the one who tried to hurt me with goodbye
you think I’d crumble
you think I’d lay down and die
Oh no, not I
I will survive
as long as i know how to love
I know I will stay alive
I’ve got all my life to live
I’ve got all my love to give
and I’ll survive
I will survive

I see the bad moon arising.
I see trouble on the way.
I see earthquakes and lightnin’.
I see bad times today.

Don’t go around tonight,
Well, it’s bound to take your life,
There’s a bad moon on the rise.

I hear hurricanes ablowing.
I know the end is coming soon.
I fear rivers over flowing.
I hear the voice of rage and ruin.

Don’t go around tonight,
Well, it’s bound to take your life,
There’s a bad moon on the rise.

All right!

Hope you got your things together.
Hope you are quite prepared to die.
Looks like we’re in for nasty weather.
One eye is taken for an eye.

Well, Don’t go around tonight,
Well, it’s bound to take your life,
Quite simply, I was overjoyed when I heard Creedence Clearwater Revival in the night…

Walked 2.8 kms in 25 minutes today.

Was listening to Speed Demon when I was driving the scooty yesterday.

Was running late to office and decided to speed up, partly under the influence of the song.

Speeded up and nearly got killed.

Never mind. Made it on time to office on time…

I would mind the least bit, if I get killed listening to music.

Like Bon Jovi said, “Staring down a bullet, let me make my final stand”.

Lyrics to Speed Demon

I’m Headed For The Border
It’s On My Mind
And Nothin’ Really Matters
I’ve Got To Be On Time
Look In The View Mirror
Is He Hot On My Tracks
Is He Getting Nearer
I Feel Some Heat Is On
My Back

(Speed Demon)
Speedin’ On The Freeway
Gotta Get A Leadway
(Speed Demon)
Doin’ It On The Highway
Gotta Have It My Way
(Speed Demon)
Mind Is Like A Compass
I’m Stoppin’ At Nothin’
(Speed Demon)
(He Say) Pull Over Boy And
Get Your Ticket Right . . .

And Nothin’ Gonna Stop Me
Ain’t No Stop And Go
I’m Speedin’ On The Midway
I Gotta Really Burn This Road

(Speed Demon)
Speedin’ On The Freeway
Gotta Get The Leadway
(Speed Demon)
Doin’ It On The Highway
Gotta Have It My Way
(Speed Demon)
Mind Is Like A Compass
I’m Stoppin’ At Nothin’
(Speed Demon)
(He Say) Pull Over Boy And
Get Your Ticket Right . . .

Speed Demon, You’re The
Very Same One
Who Said The Future’s In
Your Hands
The Life You Save Could Be
Your Own
You’re Preachin’ ‘Bout My
Life Like You’re The Law
Gonna Live Each Day And
Hour Like
For Me There’s No Tomorrow

Go! Go! Go! Aaow!

(Speed Demon)
Speedin’ On The Freeway
Gotta Get A Leadway
(Speed Demon)
Got Fire In My Pocket
I Just Lit A Rocket
(Speed Demon)
Just Pull Over Boy
And Get Your Ticket Right
(Speed Demon)
Pull Over Boy And
Get Your Ticket Right
(Speed Demon)
Just, Pull Over Boy
And Eat Your Ticket
Pull Over Boy
Pull Over Boy
And Get Your Ticket Right
Ugh!
Aaow!
Uhh!
Hoo!
Get Your Ticket Right
Pull Over Boy
Get Your Ticket Right
Pull Over Boy And
Get Your Ticket Right
Pull Over Boy
Pull Over Boy And
Get Your Ticket
Eat Your Ticket
Get Your Ticket
Eat Yo’, Get Yo’, Hoo! Aaow!
Get Your Ticket Right

Who hasn’t sung Knocking on Heaven’s door?
Latest I know is Avril Lavigne. Many others have as well…Guns and Roses, Byrds, Eric Clapton, Bon Jovi, Aerosmith even Roger Water’s got an unreleased verion.

Even I’ve sung it… in college, with guitar junkies playing their instruments as we walked on the streets at 2 am in a drizzle on our way from hostel to the main gate in an adventure to find masala tea and masal vadai.

There is no denying that it is a special song.

But it has taken me 32 years of living on this planet to lay my hand on the Bob Dylan original, yesterday. Knocking on heaven’s door in Dylan’s characteristic half talking half singing voice sure stuck awe.

Starting yesterday, I am among the people who have the complete discography of Bob Dylan. I wish the education system was flexible enough to allow an engineer to pursue a Doctorate in Music. I only wish I find like minded friends to share and document his master pieces.

Is there some one who is willing to write a book on the “revolutionary, mysterious, ingenious and completely inspirational musician, poet and artist” with me? Did you know that in every langauage there are Bob Dylan wannabes?

There is much more perspective to Bob Dylan than what can be covered in a Ph.D. thesis.
eg: 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 …

Led Zep gave the Stairway to Heaven, Dylan knocked on it, who is going to break it open?

Lyrics to Knocking on heavens door
Mama, take this badge off of me
I can’t use it anymore.
It’s gettin’ dark, too dark for me to see
I feel like I’m knockin’ on heaven’s door.

Knock, knock, knockin’ on heaven’s door
Knock, knock, knockin’ on heaven’s door
Knock, knock, knockin’ on heaven’s door
Knock, knock, knockin’ on heaven’s door

Mama, put my guns in the ground
I can’t shoot them anymore.
That long black cloud is comin’ down
I feel like I’m knockin’ on heaven’s door.

Knock, knock, knockin’ on heaven’s door
Knock, knock, knockin’ on heaven’s door
Knock, knock, knockin’ on heaven’s door
Knock, knock, knockin’ on heaven’s door

6.45 am.
Trip back from air port.
She is on the wheel.
I’m on the stereo.

In the fore ground, Tina Turner sings Golden Eye at volume level 40.
In the greatest depths of my mind a stong memory of a love that can’t be forgotten.

There surely can’t be a better context for this song.
Some times I wonder, how is it that women speak their minds so clearly?
I need to put Roberta Flack’s “Killing me softly with his song” on a CD for the car…

Lyrics to Golden Eye, Tina Turner.

See reflections on the water
More than darkness in the depths
See him surface in every shadow
On the wind I feel his breath

Goldeneye I found his weakness
Goldeneye he’ll do what I please
Goldeneye no time for sweetness
But a bitter kiss will bring him to his knees

You’ll never know how I watched you
From the shadows as a child
You’ll never know how it feels to be the one
Who’s left behind
You’ll never know the days, the nights,
The tears, the tears I’ve cried
But now my time has come
And time, time is not on your side

See him move through smoke and mirrors
Feel his presence in the crowd
Other girls they gather around him
If I had him I wouldn’t let him out

Goldeneye not lace or leather
Golden chains take him to the spot
goldeneye I’ll show him forever
It’ll take forever to see
What I’ve got

You’ll never know how I watched you
From the shadows as a child
You’ll never know how it feels to be so close
And be denied
It’s a gold and honey trap
I’ve got for you tonight
Revenge it’s a kiss, this time I won’t miss
Now I’ve got you in my sight
With a Goldeneye, golden, goldeneye
With a goldeneye, goldeneye.

This is no song.
This is description of me.

Cloudy

Cloudy..
The sky is gray and white and cloudy,
Sometimes I think it’s hanging down on me.
And it’s a hitchhike a hundred miles.
I’m a rag-a-muffin child.
Pointed finger, painted smile.
I left my shadow waiting down the road for me a while.

Cloudy..
My thoughts are scattered and they’re cloudy,
They have no borders, no boundaries.
They echo and they swell
From Tolstoy to Tinker Bell.
Down from Berkeley to Carmel.
Got some pictures in my pocket and a lot of time to kill.

Hey sunshine!
I haven’t seen you in a long time.
Why don’t you show your face and bend my mind?
These clouds stick to the sky
Like floating questions, why?
And they linger there to die.
They don’t know where they are going, and, my friend, neither do I.

Cloudy…
Cloudy…

When I sat up to type today, I was wondering if I should relate to Holi. There are many many songs on Holi.

I was listening to Anup Jalota’s ghazals last night and was wondering if I should type down the lyrics of a romantic Ghazal as a tribute to lovers who had all the Holi fun.

As for me, I am not playing with colours today, simply because I’m not used to it.
Except once in college when I got dragged into a pool of mud and got sprayed with colours, I’ve never known much of Holi.

As I’m not going to office today, I’ll be glad if I can fix the ID3 v2 tags of, say, a 100 songs and load it into my Yepp Player.

And it happened…
It happened as I was thinking and even as I was typing this blog…

I heard for the first time, a country love song by Wanda Jackson. Right after the first time, I decided that this is what I’m going to post today. Lyrics are a bit prosaic, alright. It’s Wanda’s singing that make it a song. While the lyrics are not very rhyming, its the idea behind the song I liked.

I dont know of a woman these days who can write half as well to please a man.

I didnt have time to research the song. But I did find an interesting link to Wanda Jackson.
She’s kind of cute. How else would Elvis be dating her otherwise?

Some day, I’ll write my tribute to the Elvis, the king.

Lyrics to Standby your man

Sometimes it’s hard to be a woman
Giving all your love to just one man
You’ll have bad times, and he’ll have good times
Doin’ things that you don’t understand

But if you love him, you’ll forgive him
Even though he’s hard to understand
And if you love him, all be proud of him
Cause after all he’s just a man

Stand by your man
Give him two arms to cling to
And something warm to come to
When nights are cold and lonely

Stand by your man
And tell the world you love him
Keep giving all the love you can
Stand by your man

Stand by your man
And show the world you love him
Keep giving all the love you can
Stand by your man

I’d been to Palika Bazar last week – picked up 12 movies (including Back to the Future Trilogy) and about 4 GB in music.

Most of the music was Hindi. Mukesh, Talat Mahmood, Naushad Ali and plenty of “Bhoole Bisre Geet”. While upacking, I discovered that I now had the original version of Suhani Raat Dhal Chuki from the film Dulari (1949)

I heard the remix version of the song first time in the voice of Vandana Vajpayee. The fondness in her voice sounded great.

Now when I heard the song in Rafi’s voice, I realize that the original is better than the remix.

Shakeel Badayuni’s lyrics are so nicely done that both men and women can hope to put in the same level of emotion into singing this.

A great piece of work indeed!

Suhaani raat dhal chuki

Suhaani raat dhal chuki
Na jaane tum kab aaoge
Suhaani raat dhal chuki
Na jaane tum kab aaoge
Jahan ki rut badal chuki
Na jaane tum kab aaoge

Nazaarein apni mastiyaan
dikha dikhaake so gaye
Sitaarein apni roshni
luta lutaake so gaye

Har ek shamma jal chuki
Na jaane tum kab aaoge
Suhaani raat dhal chuki
Na jaane tum kab aaoge

Tadap rahe hai hum yahan
Tadap rahe hai hum yahan
Tumhaare intezaar mein
Tumhaare intezaar mein

Fiza ka rang aa chala hai
Mausam-e-bahaar mein
Fiza ka rang aa chala hai
Mausam-e-bahaar mein
Mausam-e-bahaar mein

Hawa bhi rukh badal chuki
Na jaane tum kab aaoge
Suhaani raat dhal chuki
Na jaane tum kab aaoge

I perhaps didn’t sing enough of this song when I was taught it at seven. As a little boy I just wondered what Hosanna meant. I didnt like the song because it was so full of Hosanna anyway.

I still don’t know what Hosanna means, there are no authoritative meanings assigned to it as much as I could find from the internet. Possible origins are as varied as Old english, Late Latin and ofcourse Hebrew.

But as I grew up this song took a different meaning. I began to like the simple words that make powerful expressions.

I dont know when I will ever get to sing this song again, or perhaps if I will sing it out loud at all.

But here goes.

Give me oil in my lamp

Give me oil in my lamp, keep me burning. Give me oil in my lamp, I pray.
Give me oil in my lamp, keep me burning. Keep me burning ’til the break of day.

Sing Hosanna, Sing Hosanna, Sing Hosanna, to the King of Kings.
Sing Hosanna, Sing Hosanna, Sing Hosanna, to the King of Kings.

Give me joy in my heart, keep me singing. Give me joy in my heart, I pray.
Give me joy in my heart, keep me singing. Keep me singing ’til the break of day.

Sing Hosanna, Sing Hosanna, Sing Hosanna, to the King of Kings.
Sing Hosanna, Sing Hosanna, Sing Hosanna, to the King of Kings.

Give me love in my heart, keep me serving. Give me love in my heart, I pray.
Give me love in my heart, keep me serving. Keep me serving ’til the break of day.

Sing Hosanna, Sing Hosanna, Sing Hosanna, to the King of Kings.
Sing Hosanna, Sing Hosanna, Sing Hosanna, to the King of Kings.

Give me peace in my soul, keep me praising. Give me peace in my soul, I pray.
Give me peace in my soul, keep me praising. Keep me praising ’til the break of day.

Sing Hosanna, Sing Hosanna, Sing Hosanna, to the King of Kings.
Sing Hosanna, Sing Hosanna, Sing Hosanna, to the King of Kings.

Year 1993.

One of my close friends, who helped me through a surgery just a few months back suggested that I spend a week end in a Christian camp with him. I agreed, though I am not a Christian by birth, and was present there for two full days, praying, worshipping and singing the glory of Jesus. I learn’t many new hymns and this one was particularly close to my heart.

My friend has moved on with life now. Some where we even pick-up disagreements and we are no longer in touch. But all said and done, he was a good Christian and I regret that I didn’t use him to learn more about Christianity, despite his repeated offerings to help me learn.

I suddenly remember this song today and decided to check if it is available for download. There are only 135 listings even of the Lyrics. I will be pleased if some one is willing to share an mp3 version of this song with me.

There Shall be showers of Blessing

There shall be showers of blessing
This is the promise of love;
There shall be seasons refreshing,
Sent from the Savior above.

(Chorus)
Showers of blessings,
Showers of blessings we need;
Mercy drops round us are falling,
But for the showers we plead

There shall be showers of blessing
Precious, reviving again,
Over the hills and the valleys,
Sound of abundance of rain.

(Chorus)
Showers of blessings,
Showers of blessings we need;
Mercy drops round us are falling,
But for the showers we plead

There shall be showers of blessing
Send them upon us, O Lord!
Grant to us now a refreshing,
Come and now honor Thy Word!

(Chorus)
Showers of blessings,
Showers of blessings we need;
Mercy drops round us are falling,
But for the showers we plead

There shall be showers of blessing
O that today they might fall,
Now as to God we’re confessing,
Now as on Jesus we call!

(Chorus)
Showers of blessings,
Showers of blessings we need;
Mercy drops round us are falling,
But for the showers we plead
